IMG_20171109_190411_908Coming from a divorced family, I found myself being drawn to the counseling profession so that I could help children and teens gain the tools to cope with change and stress that I did not have growing up. While attending college at the University of Central Florida I worked as a domestic violence victim advocate. It was at that time I realized how truly passionate I was about empowering others. I completed my graduate school internship and worked for several years at a school for adolescent girls who were struggling behaviorally and academically because of past trauma, abuse, or ongoing family conflict. Since then I have worked in both residential and outpatient settings providing individual, family, and group counseling to children, teens, and adults.

Snapchat-7059763407902857849I personally believe in the importance of engaging in self-care activities and enjoy yoga, going for walks with my dogs, kayaking and going to the beach in my free time. My passion for empowering others far exceeds my career as I also volunteer my time as a lead facilitator for GIRLS Academy, a weekend-long leadership retreat for middle-school aged girls all over the country.

Counseling Philosophies

First, I take a holistic approach to counseling and believe it is important to address all areas of life including physical, mental, social and spiritual. I enjoy teaching kids, teens, and adults yoga and mindfulness so they can focus on being more present in their everyday lives. Practicing yoga and mindfulness helps decrease anxiety and depression by thinking less about the past and worrying less about the future.

My practice is strongly rooted in the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) belief that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are directly related to one another. I use a variety of CBT techniques to help my clients feel more in control of what they think, how they act and how they feel.

When you recognize your strengths and believe in yourself, you will feel empowered to reach your full potential and take control of your life. Through my client-centered approach, I promise to meet you where you are at and collaborate with you to achieve your individualized goals.

Lastly, when working with clients who may be feeling stuck and looking to solve a current problem in life, I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. This approach is helpful if you are looking to make long-lasting, positive changes in a shorter period of time than traditional talk-therapy.
